Interested in rational systems, Byoungho Kim produces works that extract new energy from industrial materials. Soft Crash is a sound sculpture made from 1,006 aluminum pipes that form a giant hemisphere. The sculpture continually emits a quiet mechanical sound that is produced by changing the frequency of a person's voice after the semantic elements of the words have been removed. Meanwhile, the striking form of the sculpture conveys the energy of a flower in full bloom, or the expanding universe.
